Running Club News 21/04/14

Following the big turnout and very enjoyable run at Fridays Running Club this evenings session was also very well attended. It was also a chance for people to burn off some Easter Excess!! The original plan was to follow the route from the previous weeks using the cut through path from the river Hamble through to Brook Avenue. Unfortunately the tide caught us out as the path was still semi-submerged. There was a planned contingency though. A slight trick perhaps to encourage a longer tougher run this evening. It was certainly longer – 5.6miles and tougher as the climb from the River to Sarisbury Green is very hard. It did catch a few people out as several had to break in to a walk up the hill, but for the most part it would have done everyone’s fitness a lot of good and certainly burnt some calories.

Even with the tough route we had a new PB this evening. Georgina set herself a new running club Personal Best split time with 9m 33s taking 6 seconds per mile off her time she set two weeks ago on a route 1.5miles shorter. Well done G! She kept up with Pete for the uphill section of the run before he stretched his legs down Brook Lane and finished in a sub-9-min per mile average. Tom also had a great run, starting near the back he changed gears at the hill and powered through the pack to finish with an average of 9m 28s per mile. Jo used the same tactics too and just pipped Tom to the finish by just a few seconds in another fantastic run.

Greg had a superb run on Friday when his stamina kept him going, this week was harder as it was another 1.5miles longer, but that didn’t slow Greg as his fitness continues to improve, he finished in less than 10 mins per mile. Awesome!! Sandy set off like a missile in to sub 8mins per mile! He found his pace along the river though and finished strong with an average of dead on 10mins per mile, 15 secs quicker per mile than Fridays run, well done Sandy…..getting quicker!!

For Maggie and Mike this was the furthest run since the Eastleigh 10k and a real test with the gradients. But they completed the route very well and in a sub 11 mins per mile average, very good! Just ahead of them was Charles, Easter definitely had an effect this evening on Charles, but even with this handicap he put in a good average of 10m 11s amazingly 30seconds quicker per mile than last week! Alistair was the opposite, t-total for Easter, he started very strong but the hill drains the energy levels and a slower second half to the run left Alistair with a very respectable 9m 42s per mile, still very fast!

Finally to show just how difficult this course was, Mike, who has been consistently improving week on week recently, finished 14 seconds slower per mile than last week. This is a true indication of just how hard this course is! Mikes average of just 7m13s per mile is amazingly fast still though, well done!!

Next weeks runs will be announced shortly
